All Kinds of Canvas

I felt strangely motivated at noonish on a Saturday. I woke up. Had a very large cup of coffee, (in my cyclopes mug)and decided to venture out in the mucky day.

My first stop was Fabricland where I found some canvas material to cover this:

I'm not sure if I can upholster or not, but I'm going to give it a go.

This is what I'll use:

I don't know about you, but it reminds me of Beetle Juice.

Then I stopped off at the art store and picked up a blank canvas:

All I can say is that it will involve blue...........maybe.

Enjoy your Saturday night everyone. I'm going to surf around the net and see what weirdness ensues.

Wild Child

My goodness! It's 23h00 on Saturday and I've finished all of my laundry!

I also watched some shows on line and I think finished my painting. I say I think because my so called finished projects never ever feel complete.

I will try and take a picture again tomorrow in the natural light. The fluorescent is reflecting badly and creating all sorts of texture. I would really appreciate some feed back if you all don't mind. I've been staring at this for over a year now and I think I'm numb to my efforts.

I've been watching Sons of Anarchy. I started watching because I'm a big fan of Ron Perlman. Then I tune in and lo and behold there is Katey Sagal. She has come a long way from Peg Bundy. It's not every one's cup of tea. I am right into this one. It is rather dark with odd comedic lines. An outlaw motor cycle gang trying to protect its small community and lifestyle.

So like I said, let me know what you think. I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Happy Saturday all. :D

Weird News Stuff

I'm at work at the moment and a bit frustrated with the little project I have been assigned, so I'm walking away and glancing at weird news stories. Quite a few have jumped to my attention. For instance, this one! If anything, I now have another reason to visit Australia. "Hundreds of seemingly drunk parrots are falling out of trees and the sky in a northern Australian town." Okay, you have my attention. The experts are suspecting some sort of plant that the birds have ingested. As a result of this article I can add another little tidbit of information to my status of guru of useless information, avian hangover food is fresh fruit and sweetened porridge.
This article was from a few days ago. Every season there is a bizarre fad that all the kids just go ape shit over. lol. This season apparently are Bandz. A simple, plastic bracelet in all sorts of colours and weird shapes. The main concern of the school officials are the distraction they provide during class. Yes, I can see how that would be true. You can also add into the mix all the "behaviour problems". For example ADD, depression, anxiety disorders, self image and so on and so forth. This is not really a fun line of thought. Let's switch back. Can you remember a trend that everyone was following when you were in elementary school? I can remember a couple. Good on me! The alcohol hasn't killed all the brain cells as of yet. We had jelly bracelets, thank you Madonna for wearing a ton that went from her wrist to her elbow. We also loved gimp bracelets! These were made with multi coloured plastic lace that you braided or wove together. This may have been the gateway to knitting for me.
I guess I should do this work thing now. I hope you are all have exciting Wednesdays!

Artsy Stuff

In a few hours our week end will come to a close. That didn't last long. Mine felt like it was in hyper mode for the better part all thanks to this little gift from a youngster who comes into my office on occasion:

I haven't blinked in three days. Maybe she can introduce me to crack next :(

I love summer. It is only May here, (correction the end of May). Our weather is showing record highs that news people are explaining that we have not had since 1939. I love it. I have always been sun charged. I get a lot finished when the weather hits the high 20s.

I worked on my painting all week end:

I'm not sure if you can see a change, but I can. I've gone in and cleaned it up a bit. I have also tried to add some depth with some light and shadow. I am thrilled with the direction this work is taking.

I have also worked on my cardigan, but only after the sun set. I have no intention of working under a blanket in warm summer months........again.

I hope our summer weather stays with us for the season. I'm off to hang out on the balcony with the fuzzies and watch Sunday pass by. See you later.

Demon Cats and Potato Salad

When you have a massive storm brewing and the weather has reached record temperatures that we have never seen since 1939, you make potato salad and fry some chicken.

This was certainly a whole new experience in my little kitchen. I already knew how to make potato salad. I must say, it is quite good. This frying chicken thing? Well this is a whole new mission for google. I just typed in chicken, fry, and no deep fryer and was provided with a very easy recipe.

So here is my chicken hidden in the flour mixture of flour, garlic powder, sea salt, and a bit of pepper:

I fried it in a pan on the stove top until no pink juice were visible. I am thrilled I was able to have the balcony door open. There was quite a bit of smoke. I really didn't want to meet my neighbours tonight.

Napoleon and Rebel headed for outside. I think they remember the grilled cheese incident when I first moved in here.

This is my supper:

Not bad eh?

Have a good night everyone. Friday is just next door!

Comic Crawl

I haven't done a pub crawl since my late teens, early twenties. I find that I have a better stocked liquor cabinet than most bars. I was never really one for dancing in small, very crowded bars. I would go because the friends I was hanging out with at the time loved them. I did enjoy myself. I always heard new music that I would never listen to on my own. Drunk people watching is way more fun that sober people watching. I did actually dance. Maybe not that all great, but there was moving happening. lol.

Anyways, I digress. Yesterday morning, I went to Toronto in search of comic books. He was hunting for Star Wars; Knights of the Old Republic. I was just looking for something unusual and odd. After all, it is Toronto. There is bound to be something catches my attention.
I googled comic stores in Toronto and was provided with apparently the top ten establishments. And away we went!
What I love most about Toronto is the variety. You will encounter absolutely everything and then some. It is a beautiful city. Whatever you are searching for, it will be there. You sometimes just have to be patient and treat it as a scavenger hunt. There is always some sort of construction going, which has its pros and cons. On one side, something is getting improved or created from scratch. On the other hand, something may be getting replaced or destroyed. It all depends on your perspective.

It is a very creative and unique city. There are displays of sculptures and paintings everywhere!

Even store fronts are works of art:

Comic book stores are no exception. The first one we found was The Beguiling. There are two floors of books, movies, action figures and who knows what else to sift through. Since it was my first visit, I found it a bit overwhelming. I tend to get into overload mode when there is some much for my to see in such a confined space. This store wasn't exactly small, but with all the items lined up from floor to ceiling, it may appear to be more compact.

Across the street from The Beguiling is Vintage Video. Now this was a pleasant surprise. You name the movie and I bet that it can be found somewhere within the walls of this establishment!

I emerged from the store with this little gem:

I love Vincent Price!

Dragon Lady Comics in Little Italy is where I found my Daredevil comics.

For me, this store had the best arrangement for a first time visitor to navigate.

With all the hype surrounded the Silver Snail, we had to visit that place as well. There were lots of things to look at but in all honesty, I was not as impressed as all the hoopla makes it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it was still worth the dollar to park.

We also found Hairy Tarantula. With a name like that, you know have to step inside.

I think that about covers my day. I know there is so much more I can share, I am just unsure how to describe. So why don't I leave you with some more pics of Toronto? I'm off to mom-proof my apartment before my parents land. Have a great May 2 4 everyone!

A Present.....

For me. From me!

My little parcel here has traveled farther than I have for the moment. It was mistakenly sent to Cambodia.

But it managed to find it's way to my home. It arrived in a cute little box:

This was in the box:

A necklace which has a portion of a print of from the Audubon Society Nature Encyclopedia. I was all over that when I first saw it!

The creator, Erica. has a fabulous shop on Etsy. She has all sorts of neat and interesting pieces.

After I finished checking out my new purchase, I started to paint. I am finally liking where this piece is going.

It was way too yellow before. I couldn't seem to add any depth. It felt wrong and I just couldn't see why. I think I have it now. When it dries a bit, I will go in and clean it up a bit so it is not so muddy.

I also worked on a new cardigan:

It is called Sunkist Cardi by Kirsten Kapur. It is worked from the shoulders down on a circular needle as one piece. I am a huge fan of one piece and little seaming!

I also enjoyed watching Rebel play with his toy today:

Well that is cool! I've never uploaded video before.

Napoleon had a great time all in his own right:

This is why I go through so many mouse things.

He likes the sound things make when they hit the ground, like I don't know, dropping my keys behind the stove for example :(

Now you are all up to date about what happens at chez Jocelynn's. lol. I hope you all have a great week end!
