First Born......

We treated ourselves this week to a beautiful sushi dinner.

We share the appetizer of sushi pizza:

Very tasty treat with salmon, crab meat, cucumber and lots of other goodness on a bed of fried rice.

Husband enjoys his Tuna Lover's Roll, made of yes, tune, spicy tuna mix in the roll and raw tuna on top; while I dive into my Red Dragon Roll raw salmon on top, with shrimp, avocado and cucumber in the middle.


The wine I chose was just because the picture matched what we were eating:

Rather simple process, but albeit a successful one!

This will most likely be the last of our treats as we would otherwise have to barter with our first born to get our truck fixed. It seems everything goes at once. Today, we replace the brake line and serpentine belt. Now our truck has the amazing ability to move forward and stop. Nothing but the best for us eh?
Our next step will be replacing the spark plugs, ball joints, and shocks. Not all at once. The bright side is that these will be the last of the repairs for a while. After all is said and done, I still love our little truck. It's like my little terrarium. A nice little habitat until I arrive at my true home. It helps keep away some of my anxiety.

I'm off now to play mini planet. Have any of you tried this? It's on Facebook. I think the only thing that really bothers me about this application, is that you cannot tell without some serious investigating the age of the other players. There are 30 year old people trying to pick up teenagers. I like to hope they don't realize initially and quickly correct the situation. I wish parents were able to better monitor their children on the net. I know what a difficult task this is. I was one of those teens that tried to get away with absolutely everything. I did survive. I like to think though that is because my parents armed me with enough fear and common sense to be wary of predators and have some self esteem. There are not that many out there that were as lucky as I was. I suppose that is a phase that we all have to go through. I hope everyone makes it safely to the other side.

I've Done Some Knitting...

I have finally started my Summer Socks from the Ravelry Pentathlon:

I really like the colour I selected. It's not as bright as I initially thought, but they will do just fine.
I'm not really pushing to have these completed by the deadline. I get the feeling from the main organizer that this event is not something she really wants to be a part of. I shouldn't let that influence me, but it has. So I will just try my best to enjoy the different patterns that become available.

I am also working on Valentine:

..for the baby Niece.

I was hoping to have it complete for her birthday which was this past Saturday, but it did not go that way. I am sort of happy I held of finishing it. It allowed me to do some reconnaissance for her size. She is just under 37 inches. :)This means I do not require much yarn.

Has anyone else been watching a lot of television lately? My Friday nights are solid! I start with Dollhouse, then the new one called Flash Forward, followed closely by Flashpoint. Not to mention all the TV during the week. Fringe started up again, so did America's Next Top Model......I could on for some time. I hope its not too weird to book social engagements around TV Guide.

I am still a little tired from the Niece's birthday party. All I really remember are a lot of sparkles, pink and a whole lot of icing. I think I'm starting to begin my sugar crash. Hope everyone had a great week end. I will chat with you soon!

A Wedding

My husband and I attended the wedding of one of his students this week end. The ceremony was beautiful. It was a traditional ceremony with the Rev. being a female. I like that. We had a female minister as well. The only complaint I had was my shoes :(. After the ceremony was over we rushed to the nearest mall to find more suitable shoes. Mine were causing me a lot of discomfort. We hit gold by one very amazing sale, buy one, get two free!!!

Icky Kind of Day

I wasn't feeling very well today. I am much better at the moment. As I wasn't in the mood to be terribly active, I was surfing the web. Wow. This is a bizarre little world isn't it? Just think, there are all sorts of people out there that share this world with us. I'm quite happy that they share their humour and ideas with us all. The Internet has made this so much more accessible, it's incredible. I am by no means a techie, but once in while I feel pretty awesome that I can find some of the bizarre and hilarious stuff out there and share with others.
This link I thought was just too cool for words. I don't see how you can think we are the only ones in the universe when there is all this activity taking place that most of us will never see. Who is to say that there is no life in other galaxies. Maybe that is why I'm so into Science Fiction. I just thought this images were beautiful.
Speaking of all sorts of people out there.....I'm not sure if I have shared this with you before or not. It made me spit out my rye so I thought it was worth a second gander.
There are all sorts of games we can play for hours on end. I found this version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy I enjoy. I don't know if any of you played, pick your own adventures, but that is what this one is like.

I Love TV.....No.....Really......I Do.....

I am forever amazed at the amount of people who I come into contact with that do not watch television. They are a unique set in my opinion. I don't know what it's like not to have one. When my sister and I were growing up in Scarborough, that was the high light of our day. The first thing we did when we woke in the morning was turn on the television to watch our cartoons. I think that obsession comes from our Dad. He grew up in Toronto and had way more the luxuries than our Mom who grew up in a small northern Ontario town. To this day, most of the people where my Mom lived still just have the basic system for television. There are only two, maybe three channels depending on the weather. One channel was French the other English. If the President or the Prime Minister was on, you were screwed. Come to think of it, that held true for our upbringing as well. Our programs were forever interrupted by a special message from the President. At that point, my sister and I would just look at each other and then scatter off to find our colouring books or Barbie dolls. Television was a means to tell time. By the time our morning cartoon was over, we had to be outside waiting for the school bus. When we came home, it took one show for dinner to be complete. After dinner, it was four shows until bedtime. Then the real games began....

It was quite the magical box. Saturday morning cartoons were the ultimate. Now, when I see those shows, I can recognize them for the half hour commercial hocking toys that they really were, but I still loved them. Shows like Jem and the Holograms, G. I. Joe, Glow Worms, Read a Long Gang, The Care Bears........That list of programs we watched is longer than my attention span, which is impressive considering the hobbies I maintain. The game shows were a whole other addiction. Bumper Stumpers, Classic Concentration, Card Sharks, etc etc etc.....
Now look at the programs we have today. This is what started my line of thinking into this subject matter. There will be a whole bunch of series and seasons premiers these next few weeks that have me totally psyched. Fringe will air in the next few weeks. America's Next Top Model will start tomorrow. A new show called Glee has peaked my interest. I was in a chat forum the other day and everyone was talking about this other show that has me madly trying to locate the time and channel it will start, Vampire Diaries. While I was using one of the many torture devices at the gym, I saw that The Tudors will be on shortly. There is a never-ending amount of shows that I want to watch. It can be scary really, but those shows are the reason why I really like this time of year.

I can't think of a transition phrase, so I'll just blurt out the details of my week end.

My parents were visiting this week end. We had a great time. They were staying close by in their motor home. They had a wonderful spot. The National Geographic Channel was just outside their window.


It's a good thing for the squirrels that Mom does not let her cat out. Their population would decrease quickly if he had free reign of the place.

Kid Rock

We had a great time at the concert Friday night. Kid Rock was actually quite professional. He went on promptly at 23h00. I don't think I have ever attended an event that actually started at the time specified on the ticket. Getting to the Molson Amphitheater was also fun. We took the Go train into the city. On board were quite the lot of colourful characters. Let me just say I'm quite relieved this motley group decided on public transportation. We couldn't' have asked for more agreeable weather. Not a cloud in the sky and it was not too humid either. We walked through the CNE grounds to get to the concert venue. We knew we were on the right path because of the aroma of beer and weed. lol. I wish I could should you pictures of the actual concert, but the ones I managed to take, are quite blurry. The few I do have are interesting though.

I had no idea Kid Rock drew such a diverse crowd:

These two ladies were directly in front of us. They were rocking out with the best of them, taking pictures, dancing, the whole nine yards.

The camera I currently use is this Canon Powershot A460 I find it takes great close up shots and scenic views. I have trouble taking anything moving in a distance shot, sort of like my vision it sounds like (near-sighted). If anyone can recommend either a way to take good action shots far away with this camera, or a camera that takes good action shots, I would really appreciate it.

Overwhelmed

We have just returned from Fan Expo. I'm still a bit dazed and confused. There was so much to see that I think I went into sensory overload. I think the best way to share what happened is through the many, many, many pictures I had taken today.
So, here goes:
We took the GO train from Oakville into Toronto.


We were not the only ones heading to the city for the Expo. I actually felt under-dressed:

I prefer this method of travel when I know I will be walking for the better part of the day. It's nice when someone else does the driving for a change. I especially like when I get a chance to look more closely at the scenery:

The line to purchase tickets was not that bad. I heard it was awful on Friday and Saturday.


I think we waited about 10 to 15 minutes opposed to the three hour wait the previous days.

Once inside, my senses went into overtime. There were so many booths and exhibitioners to visit. I had fun at this one:
