The Three Faces of Joce...

When I woke up to get ready for work Monday night, I scared the bejeebus out of me!
I was brushing me teeth, glanced in the mirror was like What?!?!?


Then I was a little scared because I have no idea how this came about,


Then I was angry because this eye would have come in handy for my Halloween costume!


Maybe the eye thing came about because I am stressing about whether I will have enough yarn to finish off this pair of socks.


All I know is that my eye does not hurt, my vision is not affected and I have become somewhat of a conversation starter today in my travels.
I think it is time to call it a night. While Hubs is using the snow blower to clear the driveway, I have an episode of Agents of Shield to watch. I am super excited as well because Stan "The Man" Lee is a guest star!!!!

The Truth is Out There

I have been watching a lot of sci-fi programs lately. Mainly Ancient Aliens.
I like the idea that there are other life forms in distant galaxies. Why should humans be the only living creatures in the vast existence.
I know I am not the only one that thinks along these lines because we have all of the movies, paintings, documentaries, television programs and comics that fuel our imaginations.
Remember X-Files?

That was pretty popular.
Gillian Anderson is still a widely sought celebrity for panels at comic conventions.
Comic Books have been supporting alien theories in every company from the Green Lantern, Superman, Martian Manhunter, Transformers, and so on and so on.
People love this concept.
That is why I started reading comic books in the first place. For the most part, the stories are amazing. Most of the creative plot lines came along well before all of these superheros became mainstream and franchise moguls.
Which reminds me, let me show you my latest acquisition:

In another lifetime, I purchased these prints at a Toronto Comic Convention. I had finally found the time and money to have them framed properly. Now I have them hanging above my computer so I can look at them whenever I want!

It hasn't only been ancient aliens and comic books. I have also been knitting up a storm with two of my constant companions.

On The Mend

We all succumbed to the flu bug that has been going around in our neck of the woods, even Reno.
The cure was to sleep as much as possible and keep drinking, beverage of your choice.
Who knew the human body could produce that much fluid?
I have to stock up on more facial tissue when I run my errands today.

Since going outside was out of the question, I began my marathon of Supernatural and made progress on quite a few projects.
I finished My Cup of Tea socks,


Made a fair dent in my knit a long mystery mittens,


Note all the sparkles! This should keep safe at night.

The yarn I ordered to make Hubs a sweater arrived,

So I began his V-Neck sweater.

It is actually a nice dark blue colour.

I even made muffins.

They are Cranberry Apple Breakfast muffins.
I used my food chopper and diced up a package of cranberries, 2 apples and followed the recipe I found on Allrecipes.
They may not be pretty but they must be good. Only about four remain.

Now it is time to tackle the day.
I should probably get dressed.
Not everyone needs to see my stylish Halloween jammies.

Ass Over Teakettle

We are experiencing a true Canadian winter at the moment, alternating between snow, freezing rain, snow and then deep freezes.
It is only the first of January and I fallen three times.
I should probably invest in a helmet.
At least I am not alone....

This is my second attempt, now with sparkles!


The first one was much too small,


I went up a needle size and chose a different yarn for the main colour, hence the sparkles.
That way you can tell which flailing Canadian on Youtube is pirouetting on her way to work.

I think Napoleon has the right idea with regards to all this winter stuff.


Just think, only 72 more days until Spring.

Severe Ice Storm Warning in Effect

Sounds like a good time to celebrate someone's birthday.
From Southern Ontario to the Maritime's, a storm warning was issued. Lots of homes were and still are, without electricity. First we had a bit of snow, then rain, then freezing rain, then a drastic drop in temperatures.
This is the result:

With everyone scrambling to get supplies like wood, food and water, we decided to make do with what we have and celebrate Little Man's birthday while we were at it!

All the ice makes for really good sledding conditions.


To warm up we made a Rice Krispie Christmas Train.

We used all the candy and frosting we could think of.

Since I work through the Christmas holidays, we had our little supper early.

This turkey experience is getting a little less stressful each I try.

For dessert, CAKE!!


Now I am decompressing.
Knitting away and watching a lot of episodes of Supernatural.
I hope wherever you are, you are warm, healthy and safe.

Christmas Spirit?

Christmas has started to actually started to become almost a holiday feeling and not just another day on the calendar.
When I was little, there was that anticipation of all the things you see advertised on social media networks. The big family dinner. The large tree in a family room supported by colourfully wrapped presents. That mysterious large man that manages to visit every child around the globe.
All those things slowly started to disappear from my life after important family members died. The matriarch that held the family together was the hardest for everyone to come to grips with. After a while, we all just started to drift apart. We would still hold a somewhat large dinner on that certain day but there was no feeling of something good to come. It was just anxiety. Hoping that nothing would burn and no one drink too much.
I think what has helped me is that I actually feel like I make a difference in a few lives. I am needed. I serve a purpose and help other people figure out what we can all do together. I'm not saying that will work for everyone, but it has helped me.
Recently, I started to build my own traditions. All those people that cause drama and turmoil? No longer has access to my life.
In our home, we do our thing. If you want to join us, no problem. Bring an open mind. We also won't say no to a bottle of wine.
I have even started to actively learn how to cook things. I have been more adventurous and cooking things like roast and chickens and turkeys. I've posted those pics right?


The other day I even made cookies!
These are called Brown Sugar Cookies.


They turned out pretty good.

Some of them even look like the picture on the website!

Since this is my first night off in about a week, I am just going to take it easy and watch the snow continue to fall. I hope you are all doing alright in your own little neck of the woods.

It's Only -13 C!

It is finally warming up a little bit in this tiny town.
Early it was about -20 C. It will be around that temperature once Christmas arrives.
It is a good thing I finished those toques!


And look! It works well against our Canadian chilliness.


Little Man is thrilled with his. He even wore it for Christmas concert!



The rest of my knitting is on hold for now until the holes in my fingers heal.
I will just have to spend quality time with my games.
