That is not the right word for how I feel at the moment. I am emotional. A gentleman, a co-worker of my husband, experienced a tremendous loss the other day. It is something that I understand to be the absolute worse thing a parent can ever be told. He received a telephone call at work that his 17 year old son was in a hospital. He was devastated. That word is so inappropriate. His died in a vehicle that rolled over with five other teens. How on earth can you move on from that. He will never be the same man again.
I hate the word accident that they use to describe those scenes. An accident is something that is non preventable. Something that occurs which is beyond your control. This is not an accident. This is a tragic loss for everyone this boy has ever encountered. All those kids that attend his school, his family, the people that read about it in the paper or seen it on the news.
I am emotionally crushed tonight.

Does Not Follow Instruction :(
It was a short work week, but a long one all the same. There was a bit of tension at work. I think it was because of the lunar eclipse. It may mess with people's brain activity.
I went to my sock class on Thursday. I was so scared. Something new, new people, new environment....... But I went. Hubby thought he was going to have to escort me there, but I went willingly! I also re-knit my sock:

I just didn't like how it was knitting up the first three times. I think I understand how to make it look better.
I can't remember if I told you about this new show I'm watching. It is called The Treatment with Gabriel Byrnes. I absolutely love it! The concept is that there is a 30 minute show every night. Each night is dedicated to a character. I love this because there are no special effects. It is only the two (or in one case, a couple and therapist), talking. The set stays the same with the exception of Saturday night when Gabriel's character goes to his own therapist's house for his session. We miss all the shows at the 830 time slot. The joy in The Movie Network, is that you can "rent" each episode to watch on your own time. I choose Sundays to sit back, knit whatever and glue myself to the television. Have I mentioned I love television? hehehe.
Oh! I almost forgot. My dirty little secret. America's Next Top Model returned on Wednesday! I love this show. I have been anticipating this since the end of the last cycle.
I am off to get living room ready now. We have some of hubby's friends coming over to play video games. I plan to work on my sock. I have to finish up to the arch expansion before the next class.
I wish you all a good night.

Won't You Be My Neighbour
Remember when I mentioned earlier, that a very kind gentleman helped me release my truck from its slippery snow filled parking spot? Here is the toque I have made as a thank you:

It was a quick little number. I started it while watching the Jodie Foster movie Brave One, and finished it while watching Fay Grim. both are very cool flicks by the way. The Brave One brought out many emotions in me. I will not spoil it for you all out there. Let us just say, I was scared, pissed, happy, and relieved all within the span of two hours. Like I said, excellent flick.
Fay Grim was quick. It has Parker Posey, Jeff Goldblum, some other actors as well that you will recognize when you see, but just can't quite get their name out. It had very clever dialogue.
The toque did not look very well on my knee for photos......

.....so I asked hubby to try it on:

He rather liked it. I am now making one for him:

This is the book I just picked up for the sock class I have mentioned:

I am very psyched. That is putting it mildly.
Tomorrow will be turkey supper with the in-laws. It should prove to be quite tastey. All of that side of the family can cook. You never go away hungry.
It is well past 200am now. I want to work on hubby's toque for a while longer.
Good night everyone :)

Bad Gift-Giver
I have finally completed the toque to give a friend. There is one little hiccup. I don't want to. I love this hat. I worked hard on it. I named it Fuzzy:

Hubby brought up a good point this evening. He said: Do you think people notice that whenever you take pictures it has 95% of the time, the same background?
Hmmmmmmm.
No, I replied. I never noticed.
So I examined my pictures. Yes. The backgrounds are all very similar. You see, I have a particular seat I love to sit on when I knit or just relax. It's my chair. It has the prime real estate spot in our apartment. From this position, I can look out the window, watch television and hear exactly what the cats are up to anywhere in the apartment. All my toys are placed within easy reach of this place. As long as you all do not mind, I will most likely continue to take pictures from this vantage point.
This has been a very long week for me. Today was particularly trying. I woke up with a headache. Whenever I get one of those, I know it will be an unwelcome guest in my head for the rest of the day. I think it was born from all the stress I have been feeling as of late. I believe everyone else in this neck of the woods have been undergoing something similar. The people I have encountered have very witchy. Minus the "w" and add a "b". Tomorrow will be Friday. A week end is long over due. This will be a special week end. It will be a long week end because of our new holiday: Family Day. There was a bit of debate in our company over this new holiday. At first, they (head cheeses), were going to allot us our day, but, take away the civic holiday we celebrate in August. I am under the impression that there was quite an uproar, as you can all well imagine. The end result: Family Day and Civic holiday are both a go! Thank goodness. We are all due a little R and R.
I am off to bed. I hope to be rid of this headache come morning.
Good night all.

Been Workin......Sorta
The good thing about winter is you are confined to the indoors at times. OK, I'm just a wuss. I hate the cold. It hurts to breath and hurts to have your eyes open. We walked to the in-laws for supper last. We always walk there and attempt to walk home, but it looks more like the path of a bee on crack. (We drink a little over.) I'm quite unhappy with the state of our town's sidewalks. I think I have climbed over cliffs less treacherous than that lovely stroll. The "walkway" is a good two feet higher than that of the street. In the path are these froze chunks of ice boulders. It hurt my feet. The sharp little shards felt like they were going through the sole of my boots. My boots are tough little buggers too. I used them for moshing in my mis-spent youth. They have a wickedly thick sole, the better to avoid shards of beer bottles from entering my foot.
OK, enough whining. Here is the progress on my socks:

Not bad eh?
My goal is to get them almost finished for when I begin my sock classes. At least it's a noble goal.
I've also been trying to put music on my ipod. So far the score is as follows:
Ipod 120 000 000 000
Jocelynn 0
I hate that the machine wins more often. Please no comments about it's not the machine, the operator. I think it is the machine. It conspires against me. I have a feeling it is trying to get the coffee maker to join it's regime. I will keep you posted.
That is about it I guess.
I'm off to play that super addictive Mario Galaxy. I am having troubles jumping and turning. It's this darn co-ordination thing.
Oh I remember now: not much longer until America's Next Top Model!!!!!
Take care all. I'm off to drink and rescue that pesky princess.

SATURDAY!!
I finally met one of my neighbours this week. I didn't introduce myself on purpose, it was situational. Thursday, was a mess. Since we had two days worth of snow, our parking lot was horrendous. The plowing company made a fake looking pass around the lot, but it was in no way clear. My little truck was unable to negotiate snow filled terrain.
Enter my neighbour.
He is an older gentleman who saw me struggling to free my beloved truck from resting place. I was rocking that bad boy back and forth as best as I could muster. He just would not be moved. I tried to put my indoor mats under the tires for a bit of traction. No go. My neighbour tried to shovel some of the snow away. Nope. It was odd. It looked to be just temperamental. There was no snow per se blocking the path, just a bit of ice.
Then it got scary. As I was rocking it, (drive, reverse, drive etc.), he decided to try and push the truck.
NOOOOOO!
Not to sound ageist, but, he is a mature individual. I had this horrible image of him falling down and clutching his chest. On the news would be splashed: Good Samaritan, Falls to Death After Trying to Help Airhead Who Couldn't Drive.
Shudders.
Anyway, He freed me. I am very thankful and am thinking the least I can do is make him a manly looking scarf, or a toque, perhaps some glittens? I say manly because, I have not actually seen him wear any winter gear except for that day. He had on this odd looking brown toque. I can make one so much better. When hubby has time, I'm going to ask him for some guy ideas for a toque or some sort of accessories.
Glittens is my new word for the week. I had no idea I even owned some. It is the word given to those convertible mitts. I like this word. It takes up less space and is pretty much to the point. A mitten in marriage with a glove. I wonder who thought of that term?
I went to the local yarn shop and paid for my sock class. I am so psyched! The day I knew I was going to see her, (day being near-death experience Thursday), I had this goofy grin on my face from the minute I locked up the office until I walked through the door of the shop. I love that feeling. I get so excited by something so utterly cool, that I cannot help but smile. I love that. Makes me sound healthy.
I chose two yarns for the first and second sock lesson:

This is for the second set of socks:

I couldn't wait to get started. As soon as I had arrived at home, I rolled that skein into a ball and proceeded to start on my homework knitting the required swatch.

I knitted this little fellow on 2.5 needles. The task was to make eight stitches equal an inch. I did it!!
I love these colours. They kick some serious ass.
Last night hubby helped me dye my head a shade of cardinal red so it will be all fresh for our big night out tonight. I am leaving my apartment willingly, to hang out with people I am not too familiar with, that is what makes it a big night, (the work thing I was telling you all about the other day).
I am off to relax in front of some good old daytime tv and perhaps a movie or two. Hope you all have a great week end.

More Snow?
At this moment in time, it is not actually snowing. It is more like raining down sheer ice. It is cool to watch though. I took this picture at 1600 hours:

This is what it is like now:

Do you see the difference? I sure as hell don't. The plow trucks have even been by at least every hour on the hour. They are more consistent with their time than my Timex.
This is the snow piled up against my window.

Did I mention I am on the fifth floor?
Just teasing you. It just blown against the window.
The snow is really the only thing going on at the moment.
I am off to bed. I have a long day of shovelling and winter driving ahead of me in the morning. I trust you are all well. Take care and be safe.
