More Adventures in the Kitchen

I now have another movie to add to my list of musicals I love. While I was waiting for my creation/concoction to cook, I watched Hairspray. I tend not to watch too many musicals. Too much sing-song, bursting into spontaneous dance that do not really fit with the story. So far my list of musicals I enjoy are Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Sound of Music and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Now I can add Hairspray!

Now about my little adventure in the kitchen.....
I think I'm beginning to get the hang of this.

This is what I started out with:

A few potatoes, ground hamburger and corn.

It merged to become this:

After a bit of mixing, this came about:

And with that new broil dial, this was the end of result:

The fuzzy children are now sleepy from supervising me all day:

So I will give them a rest and retire to my room to watch more online Sanctuary and work on another little project. I trust you all had a great week end. Night everyone.

Nice Day

I woke up a bit earlier than normal for a Saturday morning. There are children that live in the apartment above me. They usually wake up each morning laughing. I'm OK with that. It's a nice sound. Apparently Rebel and Napoleon like it as well. They shortly start looking for mischief as soon as they hear the laughter. So around 11h00, I decided I might as well start my day.

I looked outside and it was such a pretty picture.

The sky was a great blue colour. I thought I might as well get outside for a bit.

I drove to my parents' house on the other side of Peterborough. It was a bit cooler over there, but still a very crisp and warmish day for winter.

I enjoyed a nice afternoon with them. When I arrived home, I checked my emails and learned I had won a little prize from the Ravolympics. You remember that tank/tunic I knit? That was what was drawn for a prize. Pretty cool eh? So I had the opportunity to select a pattern for my prize. I'm not sure which one yet. When I do know, I will be sure to share that with you.

I also enjoyed a nice evening out yesterday after work. I went with a friend to see Shutter Island, directed by Scorsese. I enjoyed the film. There are a few twists in the plot. I find that I have enjoyed it more now that I have had time to process everything. I won't say anything more to avoid spoiling it for you all. If you want to chat about it, by all means message me and I will be more than happy to oblige. :)

I hope all of your week ends are going well. I'm off to look at more patterns. Have a great night!

Now What?

I've been feeling very twitchy today. I'm not sure why. Every so often I just start to feel like something big is going to happen. Sometimes, a big thing does happen. Other times, the feeling passes and I continue on with my little life. I've been thinking though.....I need to do something. Anything really. I want to try and explore more. I want to go somewhere. I want to see things. Maybe I'll sign up for a course at one the colleges. I've always wanted to learn about something new. I've been looking at Sheridan's online course catalogue. There is an art course that has piqued my interest. Maybe, I'll try my hand at accounting. As you can see, I really have no rhyme or reason as to what direction I want to travel. I might even go down a separate path and try travel and tourism.
What will you all be doing this week end? Is there anything exciting happening in your neck of the woods? I need some inspiration to get off my butt and do something. Now, what to do......

New Hair Cut

I had to disturb my routine and wake up earlier today. The landlord needed all the vehicles out of the parking lot by 10h00 so the plow could remove all the snow. Now this might not seem early to you, but to a vampire, this is pretty freakin' early. So, since I was awake, I might as well run a few errands. The first on my list was coffee. No one likes me without coffee. I get scary. The second item was a trim. Not a cut, but a trim. My version of two inches and the lady who cut my hair, is quite different.

It is shorter than I am used to, but I do like it. She added quite a few layers. I must remember to use less shampoo. When it grows out a bit, I'll be able to do a bit more.

I also bought the usual groceries for my dinner.
A steak:

which I just pan fried it with salt and garlic powder.

And became this:

I chased it down with this:

Now I'm off to watch a few episodes of Sanctuary and work on a few little projects. I hope you all had a wonderful week end.

Return to the Kitchen

It took me a little longer to get home last night. We have been spoiled by the lack of snow. It would appear some of us are a bit rusty when it comes to our winter driving skills. An otherwise quick, enjoyable 15 minute drive home became a very slow hour and 15 minute adventure. I am home safe and sound. That is all that really matters.

I took this picture from my balcony last night.

I love the way the light reflects on the falling snow. I think this will be my next painting.

I also completed my Ravolympics project:

It is different from the schematics that pattern provided. I like my version immensely.

What else can I share? Oh yes. My return to the kitchen!
What you see before you will become my dinner!

Voila:

Chicken Fried Rice.

I now have learned something else. Rice is like pasta. It expands. I will now have lunch for the next three days!

That is all that is really happening in my world for the time being. Tomorrow is Wednesday. We are halfway to the week end. Night everyone. :)

I Made Muffins....O_O

Don't worry Martha, you're still safe as domestic queen. I'm liking these easy to follow packets.

Not sure about the trans fat thing though.

I prepared all my ingredients....

Read the instructions again, and again, and again....

How long are you supposed to preheat your oven for?

I also thought 17 - 19 minutes was pretty specific.

So there is all the stuff mixed in:

Looks like pre-muffin stuff.

The hardest part so far is getting all the gooey stuff into the tray.

I did something right. Something is happening...

Voila! Muffins:

They turned out a bit darker than I think they are supposed to be.

Maybe next time I lean more towards to 17 minutes instead of 19.

This was going through my head the whole time of this operation. Its that one line about bluffin with her muffin....:P

I Did It!!!!

I made chicken! OK, I didn't actually make the whole chicken, but I managed to cook the wings. They were rather good.

It started out like this:

Transformed into this:

Then became this:

I think I did rather did for the first time. Not nearly as much swearing as I thought there would be.

I've also been steadily working on my Ravolypmics project:

During my new status, I seemed to have lost weight. So instead of a cap sleeve top, it may just turn into a cap sleeve tunic. I will have to see how this goes for now.

So far, my favourite part is the twisted rib. My camera just will not do it justice. I hope you can make it out.

I've also learned why I have such trouble blocking things. It would appear I have a thief in my midst:

I'm sure this is not healthy. As long as Napoleon just picks out the pins and drops them, I think I will be OK. He doesn't really have any interest other than the noise they make when they hit the ground.

I also realize that I have pretty awesome friends. They make me feel very good about myself. I feel stronger than I have ever felt. They are a large part of that good feeling. Thank you everyone. I love you all.

The boys and I are too mellow now. We are off to continue knitting and watch some online episodes of Sanctuary. Maybe tomorrow I will try some other kitchen type stuff.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone.
