Need More Holidays

You ever notice how you need a holiday to rest after your official holidays? Maybe that is just my holidays.

We attempted to go to Canada's Wonderland. We were only able to hit a few of the many rides as we were unfortunately rained out. That seems to be the theme of our summer in these parts. Have no fear. We are attempting to go again mid-August and my need for very fast drops and loops will be abated!

We returned from Gravenhurst on Monday. We had an awesome time. The weather was beautiful.

We enjoyed lots of good eats

........and lots of good drinks

Which had led to some interesting fun.....

Like many of our towns in Ontario, Gravenhurst is amazing. There is lots to see and do, especially if you are an outdoorsy type.

Turns out I'm a bit of pyro. I can set a fire in just about any condition. (Weather wise I mean, not my person condition. hehehe)

The fire kept strong until we put it out. It's good to know that if I am ever in the bush for an extended period of time, I'll be warm through the night.

Holiday traffic was horrible. Since the main highway home was completely stopped, we opted to take the back roads. This actually proved a bit difficult as there are only two seasons in Ontario, Winter and Construction. Many of the more familiar paths were closed. Sounded like the perfect excuse for some adventure.

They are not kidding. The width of our truck just fit down that little path.

It was great fun though.

I believe we are up to date now. If anything else happens, I'll be sure to tell you.
Have a good night everyone.

The Happiest Place On Earth...........

is actually not always the liquor store. Tomorrow we are going to Canada's Wonderland!!!!!

This is what I'm most looking forward to:

We were able to purchase tickets at Mac's convenience store. I'm glad. It's a bit of a break from the regular price of admission. Our awesome friend pointed us in that direction. Thank you!!!!

While we were out and about running a few errands, we picked up a few goodies.
Wilbur Smith has a new book out:

Smith's stories are incredible. He puts a lot of detail and makes his characters come to life. The stories usually span centuries. They flow seamlessly. I have yet to be disappointed with any of his novels.

This one caught my attention:

I enjoy a lot of Austen's books. Throw in some zombies, and I'm sold.

We also found a video game.

I love getting the two player games. There really are not that many out there surprisingly. Or at least ones that I enjoy. I don't really get into the shooter games too often. I do not enjoy the sports ones, unless its on the Wii. Those are fun!

We picked up a few Cd's:

Bif and Cage the Elephant.

I always pick up Bif's Cd's. I have been a huge fan of hers since I don't know when. I would love to see her in concert again. She just seems like a good person. Full of life. I just enjoy listening to her, be it through interviews or in her music.
Cage the Elephant was actually Hubby's choice. He heard their music at work on the radio. Sometimes, that is how new music is introduced to me. Our work places play radio stations that we would not normally chose for ourselves, and once in a while a song will come up that sparks our interests.

Catchy eh?

When I am able, I will let you know how Wonderland went. Right now, I'm off to see what has Rebel so concerned:

Have a good night everyone.

Fun Fun Fun

We have just come back from a very well rested, stress-free mini holiday. I had a wonderful time and I would suggest this destination to anyone who needs to get away for a bit.
I always find it difficult to pack for mini getaways. Do I need a dressier outfit? Will I be doing outdoorsy stuff? I wonder what the dress code is for dinner? Lots of questions. It's a good thing I had my travel coordinators on hand to assist:

The thing I enjoy most about driving north, is the total change in environment. It even smells different. I can't quite explain. As soon as you hit a certain point on the highway, you know you are northward bound. There is so much to see on the way up there.

We were a bit concerned about the weather.

As soon as we arrived in Bracebridge, our fears were gone.

This is where we stayed:

It was so cool. It's a side street with a lot of little houses. At the end is a more "hotel" looking building.

We stayed here, at The Gate House:

It was beautiful inside. Not at all what I was expecting:

There were a lot of wonderful restaurants to enjoy. We had breakfast here:

And this was our dinner:
I had linguine with prawns and scallops,

Husband had swordfish with crab cakes.

I loved the ambiance:

There were lots of things to explore in town:

This is just something I found terribly amusing.

We now know where Tony's target audience resides.

I am sure there is so much I could tell you, unfortunately, I cannot think of another thing for the moment. I hope you are all enjoying the week and I will check back soon. :D

Something I Have Been Thinking About,,,

I was watching television yesterday. Nothing surprising in that statement. I love TV. Anyways, I was watching Holmes in New Orleans, Make it Right. I was shocked, impressed, angry, emotional. It was a whole gauntlet of emotions. I was shocked at the behaviour of the American government. Here is a state that is complete torn a sunder. The people of this state were rendered homeless in a matter of minutes. Most of the survivors, lost absolutely everything. Never mind that they no longer have a safe place to live, they also lost all of those mementos that keep you throughout the years to remind you of where you have been. To make it worse, the government sent in machines to level the place before the residents were even able to pick through the rubbish and collect the few belongings that remained. The levee broke. People knew that it was not going hold before this horrendous event, and did nothing.
Now here is the part I am extremely angry about. How is it, that one man, with no ties to that community, living in a totally different country, decided that something needed to be done for these people? Their government asks their able bodied citizens to fight and defend their country. They send them over seas to other countries as a means of peace keepers, righting wrongs, setting a standard. In their own backyard, they can't even clean it up and make it habitable again. Where are the contractors of the Unites States? How come they are not stepping in? I wonder where are the Bob Villa's of the Unites States.
It does look like a conspiracy theory. War torn countries have been rebuilt in a more efficient time frame than the state of Louisiana. Even the Mexican government sent in help. They have not stepped foot on United States soil since 1846. On a positive note, the technology that is being put into effect is awesome. They are using methods that in the long run, will not cost very much. Air conditioning, heating, all working through a system that utilizes water(I think it's called geo thermal), solar panels as a source of power. So, when the residents move in, their costs will not exceed their budgets.
This is one of the many reasons why I am so proud to be Canadian.
Have a good night everyone

Is It Friday Yet?

Apparently not. We are getting super close though. :)

I've received something very cool in the mail today:

The cross stitch patterns I ordered online not too long ago. I am very impressed with how swift they made it to their destination. I would order from this company again if given the opportunity.

I don't think I have ever worked on anything in this scale before. I can't wait to start. I am going to wait though because I want to clear off a few lingering projects.

Two more days to go and the weekend will be upon us. Have a good night everyone.

:D

Guess what came in the mail the other day?
Too late, I have to share.

These:

We are going to see Kid Rock at the Molson Amphitheatre next month.
I have been wanting to see this guy for quite some time and just never had the opportunity or the time to do so. This summer I made sure to check the concert listings religiously so I wouldn't miss the date.

Since I enjoyed my other pattern so much, I thought I'd take a crack at another one. This is all I will share for the time being:

Heeheeheee.

My first pattern is just about done. I need to block it and photographed it. If the weather would only cooperate, this would go so much smoother.

Monday is quickly approaching. I am off to mellow out so I can try this sleeping thing. Have a good night everyone. :)

Happy Canada's Day

To all my fellow Canucks,
Happy Canada's Day
