We Are OK

This past week has been a bit of a challenge to say the least.
Hubs has had on and off for a the better part of a couple of months, pain in his shoulder.
Well, finally it reached the point where he just could not take any more. For him to get to this level of pain is unheard of. He just is not one to complain, ever, about any sort of discomfort.
So let the adventure begin.
We drove to the emergency room in the next town over. The whole time Hubs is just doubled over, almost crying. To see this is very unsettling, scary is probably a better word. I felt so helpless because there is nothing I can do but drive him to somewhere there is help.
I must say, once we arrived at the hospital, the staff were great. They immediately gave him something to stop the spasms. After the muscles in his shoulder quieted down, they took him for x rays. Those drugs are powerful. They knocked him on his butt in no time. If I wasn't standing in front of him, he would have done an epic face plant to the tiles.
After about six hours, we learned that his has had some serious stress to his trapezoids muscle. That is the one that runs from your neck across your shoulder and covers your shoulder blade. He will be off work for a little while until he can heal. Lots of sleep and quite the assortment of medication to help him on the road to recovery.

Yesterday was Comiccon in Montreal for Jacob and I!
It was weird just the two of us going, but it is much better for Hubs to stay home and rest. We did have a great time!
It was very overcast with periods of rain, but not a worry for us!

There were lot of interesting characters and cosplayers that did such a great job!

All that walking around made us very hungry!

So we had a great lunch up in the cafeteria

We walked around a little more,

Picked up a few souvenirs and it was time to head home!

That was my week end in a nutshell.
I hope you are all well.
Happy Sunday everybody.

Happy Canada Day!

I hope the weather cooperates with your week end activities. The start of summer is going quite well at my end of the world. Today happens to be a bit cloudy, but that is a welcome reprieve from the heat we have been experiencing. My plants are doing fairly well.
The exception seems to be my honeysuckle. Something has started to mummify my beloved plant.

I haven't a clue what is causing this. The Honeysuckle tend to bloom twice. I'm hoping after all the flowers drop off, that the second blooming period will be without incident.

My tomatoes are doing great!

So are my lilies!

We had frost much later this spring. I think that is the reason why the Red Lily Eating Beetles did not do their usual damage this year.

We also had more activity from our feathery neighbours, which I have recently learned are Winter Wrens!

Jackie felt it was her duty to protect the feathery babies.

She takes her job very seriously. The parents seem to have accepted the fact that they have sentinel standing guard.

The day after we shot these photos, the little ones had left the nest. We could hear the chirping every time Jackie went to explore the backyard.

This is my first night off in quite some time. It will probably be an early night for me. I hope you are well.
Happy 4th to my southern neighbours!

Very Green With Hint of Promise

I have this garden in the back that is attached to a piece that is attached to the garage.
How is that for a sentence eh?
Let me show you a picture to better explain

As you can see, it is all very green.
I am unable to tell the difference between weeds and flowers.
To be honest, I think some of the labelled weeds are rather pretty, so I keep them.
I had a delightful surprise the other morning while I was looking at my very green garden.
There is this rose bush that lives at the back, in the middle of this green carpet.
Since we have lived here, for just over four years now, I had yet to see a single flower on this plant.
As I was sipping my coffee and just watching the antics of our feathery neighbours, I noticed that this plant had indeed sprouted a few blooms!

I have little white flowers that have finally made an appearance.
I guess we all need a bit of time to get things under control.

My herbs are doing remarkably well with the exception of my rosemary.
For future reference, I will not plant Rosemary with parsley and oregano.

I use rosemary in a lot of my recipes. There is one in particular that I discovered for a sangria that calls for Rosemary and cranberries.
We decided that since this was one of my week ends off, we would go on a little adventure and search for the valuable Rosemary.
We were not disappointed.
Not only did we find Rosemary and, a very hearty one at that!

We also found a wonderful Honey Crisp apple tree that the boys planted,

But,
the ultimate,
best part of this little adventure
was when I finally,
after three
very
long
years,
finally found my lavender plant!!!!!

This wonderful plant now holds a place of honour on my back deck where I can watch and marvel at its growth!

As I mentioned earlier, I was enjoying the antics of our feathery neighbours.
The little house that Hubs made has been the home a very small bird and its family.

If any of you know the name of this little bird, I would greatly appreciate the information.

It is really something to behold. The parents are a well oiled team. the male and female both bring food to the nest and both clean up the mess that the little ones leave behind. It is also interesting to me, that when they clear the nest, they travel a fair distance before dropping the evidence of their young. Quite clever these little birds.

Another surprise we had this week end was this little fluff ball.

Unfortunately, he fell from his nest and we were unable to find it.

To try and keep him safe, we hid him under the rhubarb where mom and dad, who were close by, could watch him and do their best to help.

I enjoyed a bit of the outdoors myself by working on a charcoal drawing for someone.

I finally found the spray I can use to keep the charcoal on the paper on off my hands.
I'm off to do that now actually.
Jackie has promised to supervise.

I hope you are all enjoying the warm weather.
Happy first day of Summer!!!!

Empty Nest

I have learned a lot about Robins these past two weeks.
They are very protective of their young.
They are very morning creatures that welcome the dawn.
They like their picture taken when looking fierce.
It takes about two weeks for a baby to go from egg to flight, as proven by the empty nest.

I know they were around the nest for a bit on Saturday. I could hear them communicating with each other.
I hope the little ones make it. They were such an exciting experience to learn from and watch.

It was a beautiful week end.
We all enjoyed being outside or as close to outside as was manageable.

My tomatoes have been planted and watered.

New things are popping up in the garden.

I also completed a Father's Day card to be mailed shortly.

I think the recipient is going to get a huge kick out of this.
I needed to do some research with regards to the cats.
I know they have cats.
I have seen evidence of their existence,
I just never seen them.
They like to hide when company visits.

After all is said and done, we relaxed on the patio and just enjoyed the quiet before the neighbours decided they needed to be do-it-yourselfers, making more noise than a person would think possible.
