Outside For St. Jean Baptiste Day

Yesterday we just had a nice quiet afternoon outside.
Lovely BBQ with veggies and pork chops.
I can sit outside all day and do absolutely nothing.
It must be an art form.
Hubs does not have that ability.
He decided to rip up all the old mismatched patio stones that placed in no real particular pattern.
What resulted was the Boy's first documentary on Ant Life.

We also were visited by a very curious Dragonfly.

Then a Robin stopped by.

Ow

I have no idea what spooked little Reno, but spooked he was.
There we were, just tucked in all nice and comfy in bed reading George R. R. Martin's, A Clash of Kings and boom.
Reno decides to run as if he is on fire.
This was the souvenir he gave me:

It is really difficult to place a bandage on that part of your body.
Needless to say, everyone had their nails cut that evening.

For Father's Day I made Grilled Chicken with Rosemary and Bacon.
It turned out beautifully.

Speaking of Rosemary, my herbs I planted in those little pots are not doing well.
Actually the mint is fantastic.

It is the Citron and Eucalyptus I am not so sure about.

I had no idea the Citron would flower. It did not show flowers on the little tag that came with the plant.

I'm off to watch a few television episodes. We have Hannibal, The Killing and the season premiere of True Blood to catch up on. This is my first night off in a few days. It will also be my only night off for maybe another week. Hopefully the new lady I train will work out.
Night everyone!

The Hummingbirds

As I explained in an earlier post, we have quite a number of Hummingbirds that visit our home.
Hubs took some excellent pictures I would love to share,

Other than our new feathered friends, nothing much else is happening. I have the pleasure to work more nights because the new girl has sought other types of employment. I'm ok with this as the weather has been pretty crappy for lack of a better term.
Maybe once summer begins in just over a week, the weather will be more co operative.

Jen

Happy Birthday Jennifer
I don't even know if you read this. It actually doesn't really matter.
The thing that does matter is you gather your thoughts and get in touch with your mother.
You don't even have to telephone. A simple postcard with only the words, I am OK is sufficient.
I have no idea what you are trying to prove and to whom.
I just wish you would realize that you do have family that does love you very much.
Even if you are not ok, you can still contact me and I can drop everything and find you.
I do sincerely wish you a Happy Birthday.

I Think I Might Finally Know the Name of this Plant.

To enter our backyard, you go through this gate like structure and pass under this orange climbing plant.

Almost sounds like a bit from Dungeons and Dragons no?
Anyway, I was reading this blog over here, Chickens & Fine China, where it mentions this plant called a Honeysuckle.
Is that what this orange thing is?
I love it!
Two years later, I finally have an answer to one of the many questions involving this garden.
Thank you!
Sincerely!
The Hummingbirds love this plant. One day I might even be able to capture one of those flying little acrobats on film.

Gardening

I had a mini adventure at the garden nursery this past week end. I was looking for plants and flowers that come up every year as well as a solution for mosquitoes. I am tired of becoming a walking buffet for those vampire insects.
I went with my mom-in-law to Les Serres Sabrevois.
They have absolutely everything you could ever imagine needing or wanting for your garden.
I found everything I has on my list and then some.

I lost the tag for this plant:

If anyone knows what it is, can you please tell me?

These are the ones I managed to keep with the tags:
An Asiatic Pot Lily

Santa Cruise Sunset Begonias

if only because it reminds of a Sublime song.

Berry White Osteosperum

Veronica Longifolia

Cherry Blossom Delphinium

Gaillardia Goblin

Anything with the name Goblin in it must belong in my backyard!

Echinacea Pow Wow Wildberry.

This is what my garden looks like after I ripped up all the Hostas and transplanted the Daffodils:

This is my solution for mosquitoes!
In one pot I just have Mint.

The larger one has an orange smell. The smaller one is the mint that you find in most grocery stores.

In this pot, I have Eucalyptus and a Geranium Citron plant.

Time will tell if this works.

I also bought this hanging plant as a floral wall between where we usually sit outside and the neighbours.
Once again, I have no idea the name of this flower.

This is what my garden now looks like:

When it is stops raining, I will post some updated pics.
Hope you are all having a great day!
